Yoga Studio

Urban Asanas welcomes yoga practitioners of all levels and from all socio-economic backgrounds. We offer free mat rentals and community classes and workshops, as well as student and senior discounts. We keep yoga fun and accessible to all. Check out our diverse class offerings, workshops and events.

Yoga Studio Schedule

online booking

Booking online reserves a space in class until 5 minutes before class begins. At that point, reservations are released and you are still welcome to practice if there is space available. Running late or can’t fit into class? Cancel your reservation through the Union app or email us for the class credit to be returned to your account to be used within 90 days.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class begins to give yourself time to check in, set up and relax.

Sundays 10am— Restorative open level

Soul Sunday

The Sunday service you didn’t know you needed. Join Jyll for a 90-minute, uber-restorative flow to kick your week off. This class is great for beginners and those who are returning to their practice.


Mondays 7am | mondays, wednesdays, fridays 9:30am | friday 5pm— open level vinyasa/hatha flow

Urban Community

A 60-minute open-level community class designed for all. We offer a sliding-scale rate of $15-20 (cash only) for this class.


tuesdays 7pm

Urban Unwind

A class designed to ease you into a surrender of postures that help relieve the effects of chronic stress. The use of props provides a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. This practice facilitates deep release in connective tissue and calms the nervous system. Awesome for beginners!


MONDAY + thursday 7pm | saturday 9:30 am — Power OPEN LEVEL

Urban Power

A 90-minute flow that links body movements with breath. Expect to sweat! This class is great for students who have experience with a yoga practice — however, if you are new, we are happy to offer modifications!


Tuesdays and thursdays 9:30am— Vinyasa/Hatha Level II

Urban Mixer

Need a little bit of this and a little bit of that? We’ve got the perfect class for you. Warm up with a restorative flow, finish off on a powerful note. This 90-minutes class is great for beginners and those wanting to deepen their practice.


tuesdays 12pm— Open Level

Urban Kundalini

This ancient yoga practice focuses on breath and asana (a.k.a. physical postures) along with chanting, meditation, hand gestures, (mudras) and movement. The practice and technology of Kundalini Yoga assists in awakening the dormant potential energy that is coiled at the base of our spine. This sensual shakti divine feminine energy assists in moving and inspiring the creative life force to move and rise through any blockages.


saturdays 4:30pm— Open Level

Urban Kemetic

Engaging the sacred geometry within each and every one of our bodies, class attendees will have the opportunity to access deep healing, wisdom and expansiveness.  Chiefly engaging Kemetic Yoga as the vehicle, we will journey through a steady paced flow, where we will become the elements, become the energies and become the alchemists that we are.  Adequate props are utilized throughout the practice to support our differently abled bodies to access new spaces and places.  If you can find balance, peace and alignment on the mat, then you can find it off the mat.  This class moves along a carefully curated playlist that uses various soundscapes to enhance the mind, body, spirit connection and reconnection.

Class Cards and Memberships

Class cards and monthly memberships cannot be transferred or shared. Yoga class cards expire after 6 months. Recurring monthly memberships require a three month minimum commitment and 30 days notice to suspend or cancel. If you cancel a class before attending the class credit will remain on your account for 30 days. If you do not show up for a yoga class a credit will be applied to your account for future use.

Jyll

As the creator of Urban Asanas, Jyll seeks to diversify the yoga community with classes that cater to every ethnicity, gender, and budget. She bows down to her greatest teachers of all: her children Sierra, Cypress, and Indigo for all their inspiration and love. In line with her dedication to sharing the many benefits of yoga, Jyll has taught students of both public and independent New York City schools. Additionally, Jyll has taught at the YWCA, numerous sports clubs, and select private students. Jyll is a certified Thai Yoga practitioner and a doula.


 

Monstah

Monstah Black is certified in 200hr Vinyasa Yoga/Movement Technique/Core Strengthening. His classes focus on strengthening, lengthening, and releasing while finding pleasure within the sense of dancing through mindful practice. Monstah is passionate about providing the practitioner with detailed navigation on a path to body awareness. Virginia Commonwealth University dance classes is where Monstah was introduced to proper breathing through somatic movement techniques. When he’s not performing on music festival stages internationally, he implements his training in movement and vocalization to guide practitioners through pranayama and asanas supported by sound and breath. His passion for movement and music shines through in his teaching, creating a transformative experience for all who attend his classes.

jitka

Jitka is a 300hrs+ yoga teacher in the hatha yoga and Tibetan heart yoga tradition. Her passion is in the so-called “household yogi” tradition rather than monastic lineages, a philosophy inviting yoga into everybody’s life, life style and pace of life. 

She is specialized in a combination of yoga with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), where knowledge of energy pathways in the body as well as acupressure are used to deepen the practice and the feeling of the inseparable connection of the body, mind and spirit. 

Jitka is an Acupuncture Detoxification and a holistic health specialist, involving simple and safe modalities such as acupressure, cupping, moxa, guacha, massage ball therapy and Qi Gong. She is a certified shiatsu practitioner (200 hrs+) and believes from the deepest depth of her heart that community, togetherness and love are the means to heal ourselves and the world. 

She holds community healing events, teaches self-healing and volunteers at harm reduction facilities and anywhere else where compassion, love and being human with all its ups and downs are needed. One love.


 

jovan

Jovan started practicing Yoga at the age of 19, to complement her dance and Pilates training. She first started teaching yoga to children and later decided to dive deeper and receive her 200 Hr ShaktiYoga teacher training with Julie Dohrman, and her Reiki attunement from her Reiki Godmother’s, Aki Hirata Baker and Manu Del Prete. Her classes are an enlivening combination of her deep love of movement and her sessions, a discovery of the medicine that may be found within. 

She invites practitioners of all levels to trust the wisdom the body holds and to show up as we truly are. No matter where she lived or traveled, she has always found herself turning to movement to support her in her well-being. 


 

katie

A yogi of over 25 years, Katie is a radical creative hailing from the blessed coast. She received her 200-hour yoga and reiki certification in 2011 with Deborah Hanekamp @Mamamedicine and has led classes in studios, gardens, women’s shelters and arts venues throughout the US, UK and Asia. In 2019, she complete a Trauma-Sensitive YTT with the Lineage Project. A long-time student of Siri Rishi, her practice fuses Hatha-Vinyasa with selected Kundalini techniques; encompassing the sacred alchemy of asana, mantra and pranayama breath work. A pioneer of Hip Hop Yoga, Katie’s transformational work lies under a sacred canopy of co-created ritual and magic to align with higher consciousness.

LINDSEY

Lindsey Dean offers yoga classes that center moving with intention and creating space to connect with the breath. She’s continuously grateful for how the practice supports resilience and strengthens community. Lindsey started practicing yoga in 2009 and completed her 200-hour training with Lucent Yoga in February 2019. She has since participated in trauma-informed yoga, prop-assisted workshops, and various other trainings. Lindsey originally hails from the Virgin Islands, and believes that a little humor sweetens the space.

Margo L Terry aka luxlun (250 RYT) is a yogi and multimedia artist born and based in Brooklyn. Margo offers dynamic yoga classes inspired by Hatha and Vinyasa traditions. She guides her students through a sequence of breath work, intentional movement, and meditation to ease and strengthen the mind, body, and spirit.

Maury’s focus is always on the student. She works consistently to give students the quality practice they deserve. Passionate about wellness, she has an unending desire to dissolve separations globally and increase the potential for greater connections and love in all aspects of life, on and off the mat.

Maury incorporates spontaneity, enthusiasm, and humor into a thoughtful and anatomically safe class for a wide range of ages and abilities. 

She brings 20 years of practice and teaching experience. She is a certified teacher, trained in Jivamukti Yoga, has extensive experience and training in Yoga for Children, Core-Strength Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga, Hatha/Vinyasa, Restorative, Buti Yoga, MERGE, and the Practice and Sculpt and Flow Yoga.

Because of her wide spectrum of yoga practice, experience, and sound foundation in alignment, yoga philosophy, and meditation, Maury has been invited to assist and lead Yoga Teacher Trainings, including assisting an Ortho-Yoga Therapy 300-hour Teacher Training, specializing in fascial release techniques. Most recently, she independently led a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training for Yoga Six, graduating twelve new teachers. 

Maury is currently seeing clients while obtaining her (IAYT) International Association of Yoga Therapists Professional Certification through the Pramananda Yoga Institute based in Indore, India. Through the practice of Yoga Therapy she helps individuals manage their condition(s), reduce symptom(s), restore balance, and increase vitality.  

She looks forward to bringing her experience to a mat near you! 


tamara

Tamara Thomas is an educator, performing artist and choreographer. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she toured with Chuck Davis' African American Dance Ensemble. While completing her Master in Fine Arts in Dance at Temple University, she served as a member of Kariamu and Company Traditions and Kulu Mele African American Dance Ensemble.  In addition to being a performing artist, as a choreographer, she has shown her works at events and venues such as World Café Live, the Temple Black Alumni Arts Showcase, the Black Women's Arts Festival, the International African Arts Festival, the American College Dance Association Regional Conference, the Chale Wote Arts festival in Accra, Ghana and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. 

Her artistic vision involves the integration of arts and community development. This focus has been shared with various community based organizations both nationally and internationally and drove the creation of The Nkonsonkonson Afrikan Youth Ensemble in Kingston, Jamaica. She has provided instruction in various capacities at Temple University, the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts in the School of Dance, the University of Georgia, Goucher College, and Medgar Evers College.  She is currently a Health and Nutrition Life Coach, Doula and Yogi and has founded Sola’s Wellness Garden – Health Nutrition Coaching and Doula Services.
